upcoming exhibit

Spring 2009

This exhibition introduces the visitor to Christian Dior's mid-century fashion influence, brief but extensive and world-experienced, from the introduction of his first collection in 1947, immediately dubbed the "New Look", to the last he created before his untimely death.  Not only was the fashion silhouette he is given credit with popularizing evident in European and American fashion periodicals like Vogue and Harper's Bazaar but also in the American popular press in publications that include Life and Collier's magazines.  Local newspapers such as Baton Rouge's State Times and Morning Adovate and even LSU's annual yearbook of student life contain references to the popular innovation in fashion.  His design expertise continues today to be a source of inspiration with the design work of LSU graduate student Ashley Jones included in the exhibition.
